Dating back to 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace served as the residence of the Joseon dynasty rulers, their households, and governments. Though much of the original structure was destroyed by fire in the late 16th century, the palace was reconstructed during the 19th-century reign of King Gojong. The expansive complex includes a number of pavilions and halls, as well as the royal family's private quarters. Also on premises, you'll find the National Folk Museum, National Palace Museum, and a number of traditional Korean gardens. Amazing place full of culture and history! This is one of the largest and most preserved palaces in Korea. Highly recommend going early in the morning to avoid large crowds. Once at the palace you can pay a small fee and join one a free tour guide. There is also a schedule for a guard-switch ceremony which was phenomenal due to its tradition! Also, there are many local shops where you can rent traditional Korean royal garments known as Hanbok and enter any palace in Seoul for FREE! Enjoy your adventure!

If you like history, it’s beautiful. What’s better is so many locals were wearing traditional dress. Beautiful to see. The Koreans really have a wonderful city in Seoul. Much to be proud of.
