Library · Traveler Resource
The largest of the capital city's public libraries, OBA Library of Amsterdam offers several floors of books and exhibits to explore. Though it may seem mundane to visit a library, the beautiful architecture, cafe, and other features available to the public make this one particularly noteworthy. View the two radio stations housed in this building, as well as the library's youth department, which boasts the famous Muizenhuis, a handmade dollhouse for mice built by artist Karina Schaapman. The impressive building was designed by Jo Coenen and houses nearly 2 million books. It frequently features visiting exhibits on art, literature, or design. • I like libraries, so this one is obviously a good go for me. The building is huge and they offer on the top (seventh floor) a chance to drink or eat something while having a nice view over the city.....  more »
  • Who goes to a library on vacation, we do. This library was awesome to see. 7 total stores with one being the cafe. Books of all subjects. We went on a Sunday and there were students in there...  more »
  • A very nice library! Great opening hours. Nice and plenty of places to study. Modern building with a modern interior. Personally would’ve chosen for warmer lights, the lightning is too cold/whitish at some areas. I recommend this library for studying!
  • An excellent, well-equipped library. From its extensive collection of media (books, magazines, video and multimedia CDs) and comfortable seating/study spaces, to its superb children’s library (beautifully presented, lots of spaces to relax and read). As a non-resident of Amsterdam it was an excellent space to work (and read!) for the day. I’d also recommend its cafe downstairs and Babel on the rooftop terrace for light lunches at reasonable prices (huge chicken pitta with side salad and fries with a drink €12).
