Witness the work of famed Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan at , a majestic religious structure that dominates the Golden Horn and shares similarities with Hagia Sophia. This mosque was commissioned by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in 1550 and completed seven years later. Though it may be less ornate than other elaborate religious structures in the city, the mosque's Byzantine influence has gained it recognition for its blend of architectural styles. Having experienced damage from natural disasters and wars over the centuries, the building is fully restored and now one of the most popular attractions in Istanbul. Well… Muslim or non Muslim it’s free to visit and experience a piece of Islamic religious culture and more. If you are a woman and wondering about entree rules, you must have a head scarf, which the front desk has free ones, sterile, for your use. The same goes for covering legs, they will supply this garment as well... Personal feelings aside this place is pretty captivating and full of mystique. The interior is beautifully decorated and rather peaceful. Views along the outside perimeter are excellent!
Beautiful mosque. Its up on the hill with very interesting and enjoyable walk towards there. You can see one big part of the city and also can contemplate the beauty and serenity of the bosforus. Very peaceful place and amazing architecture. Totally recommended. From 12pm to 14:30 pm the mosque is closed to entered in as they have prayer time
